Chives, Allium schoenoprasum
Hardy, drought-tolerant, edible, bug-resistant…what’s not to like? Chives grow to about 10-12 inches in clumps, the grass-like, onion-scented foliage emerging from bulbs. They flower in mid-summer in cheery, round pink flowers, which are also edible in salads or as garnish. Chives prefer full sun, but are tolerant of a variety of soils.
